Chemical Safety and Control of Substances
The cleaning chemicals we use are assessed for health risks, and the safest effective products are selected wherever practicable. Material safety data and handling instructions are available for all relevant substances.
Measures to control exposure include:
Proper labelling and secure storage of chemicals.
Decanting and mixing of products according to manufacturer instructions.
Provision and use of appropriate personal protective equipment such as gloves, masks or eye protection where required.
Adequate ventilation during cleaning processes, especially in enclosed spaces.
Safe disposal of waste and used containers in line with environmental and safety requirements.
Personal Protective Equipment
Where risks cannot be fully controlled by other means, Kennington Carpet Cleaners provides suitable personal protective equipment. This may include protective gloves, non slip footwear, masks, eye protection and protective clothing.
Employees are responsible for using this equipment correctly, reporting any defects and ensuring it is stored and maintained appropriately.
Training, Instruction and Supervision
All employees receive appropriate health and safety training relevant to their role. This includes induction training for new starters and ongoing instruction as tasks, equipment or legislation change.
Training topics may include manual handling, safe use of machinery, chemical handling, use of personal protective equipment, fire safety, emergency procedures and first aid awareness. Supervisors monitor working practices and provide guidance and correction where necessary.
Client Premises and Site Safety
When working at client premises, our staff will:
Carry out a brief on site assessment of potential hazards before starting work.
Use warning signs or barriers where appropriate, such as when floors are wet or cables cross walkways.
Take care to protect furniture, fixtures and surfaces.
Keep work areas tidy and ensure safe storage of equipment and chemicals during and after work.
Follow any reasonable site-specific safety rules provided by the client, so long as they are consistent with our own safety standards.
Emergency Procedures and First Aid
Kennington Carpet Cleaners maintains procedures for responding to emergencies such as fire, chemical spills, accidents and sudden illness. Staff are briefed on how to raise the alarm, evacuate safely and contact emergency services where necessary.
Suitable first aid arrangements are in place, and employees are informed of how to access first aid resources. All incidents requiring first aid or medical attention are recorded and reviewed.
Monitoring, Review and Continuous Improvement
We regularly monitor our health and safety performance through inspections, audits, incident reporting and staff feedback. This policy and our associated procedures are reviewed periodically, and whenever changes in legislation, work practices or risk assessments require it.
Kennington Carpet Cleaners is committed to continually improving health and safety standards across all aspects of our cleaning operations, with the aim of ensuring that every job is completed safely, efficiently and to the satisfaction of our clients.
